March 15, 2008:
Dream.1 went down at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on March 15, 2008. What’s more, the event brought us the first round of a Lightweight Grand Prix in true PRIDE Fighting Championships style.
Unfortunately, the most anticipated fight of the night between Gesias “JZ” Calvancante and Shinya Aoki ended prematurely when Calvancante landed an illegal elbow to the back of Aoki’s head. Thus, it was ruled a no contest.
Further, Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic ended his two fight losing streak with an easy first round TKO due to strikes over Tatsuya Mizuno.
The event came on the heels of good news for American fight fans. Namely, the DREAM organization looks to be close to finalizing a deal with Mark Cuban and HDNet to broadcast future DREAM events overseas.
