Tank Abbott vs. Kimbo Slice Review and Results
By Robert Rousseau

February 17, 2008: Picture it: EliteXC: Street Certified at the Bank United Center in Miami, Florida on February 16, 2008. We’re talking about Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott. Brawling at its best. What’s more, James Thompson, Kyle Noke, and a match between Antonio Silva and Ricco Rodriguez were also on the card. Here’s how it all went down.

Brett Rogers knocks out James Thompson at 2:24 of round one: Beforehand, Thompson said “The Colossus is ready.” He came out of the gate like it, looking for takedowns and succeeding briefly in the early stages. But Rogers proved to be difficult to get to the ground and even harder to keep there. Eventually, a well- placed knee by Rogers separated the two fighters. Several punches later, it was all over.

Yves Edwards knocks out Edson Berto at 4:56 of round one: An outstanding back and forth fight. On their feet, Edwards hit home with some nice punches and his opponent connected with some excellent low and high kicks. However, not too far in Berto looked for and secured a takedown. The problem? He got turned over and punished. But then the referee brought them to their feet inexplicably and Edwards connected with a left knee while his right leg was held in the air by his opponent (a great move). It was that superb knee that ended things.

Scott Smith knocks out Kyle Noke after 7 seconds in round two: Beforehand, Smith said, “Noke’s gonna find out the hard way why they call me hands of steel”. In sum, he was correct. Noke won the first round by sticking and moving. However in the second , Smith nailed Noke with an extremely big right that ended the fight.

Antonio Silva defeats Ricco Rodriguez via split decision: Beforehand, Ricco Rodriguez promised a “war.” Well, it wasn’t that good but it was a close fight. The first round went to Rodriguez; the second round went to Antonio Silva. The third?

Most judges thought Silva deserved it. Thus, he took home the win. But it was very close.

Kimbo Slice knocks out Tank Abbott after only 43 seconds in the first round: Tank looked for a takedown early and was unable to secure it. From there, Slice delivered a boat load of punishment, dropping Tank to the canvas on three separate occasions before the referee finally stepped in. Kimbo may just be for real.
